RACERS PRESENT DONATION TO THE MARION-EAST CEDAR RAPIDS ROTARY CLUB.

On January 8, 2008 Big House Motorsports principal Corey DePauw aka “Big House” presented a check to the Marion-East Cedar Rapids Rotary Club at a ceremony held at the Longbranch Convention Center.  The check totaled $ 1,000.00 and represented the donations from his racing team collected over the 2007 Racing Season.

The program was called “Big Kids Helping Little Kids” and the money was derived from his Racecar’s winnings from Hawkeye Downs Speedway, sponsors, raffles, T-Shirt sales, a Charity Event at the racetrack (Hawkeye Downs Speedway), and various donations.

The money was raised to help the Marion-East Cedar Rapids Rotary Club’s Charities including the “Shoes for Kids Initiative”.  It is a program that provides “Shoe Cards” valued at $20.00 which are available from the school nurses in all the Cedar Rapids and Marion Elementary, Middle, and High Schools.  The nurses assess the children in need and give them a card and help them get to Payless Shoes to pick out a pair of new shoes with their parent, guardian, or responsible adult.  Payless Shoes is also involved by adding an additional discount so the child can get the most for his or her money.  It is extremely popular throughout the two cities and shows what local people committed to a cause can accomplish.
